The study "Mobility in Germany", "Austria on the move" and "luxmobil" have produced three key studies on national mobility: The surveys commissioned by the governments in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg provide detailed data on the mobility behavior of the population and thus serve as a basis for political decisions.
The study "Mobility in Germany" (MiD) is commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI). The study was first conducted in 2002 on infas' previous KONTIV surveys and repeated in 2008. The survey, execution and evaluation of the implementation in 2017 was conducted by infas together with a team of other providers. 135,000 households were interviewed.
The study "Austria on the Road" is the equivalent of MiD in the Alpine Republic and was developed by infas in 2014/2015 in cooperation with TRICONSULT Wirtschaftsanalytische Forschung Gesellschaft m.b.H. carried out. This mobility survey was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit) in Vienna together with the Austrian federal states, ASFiNAG and ÖBB. About 17,000 households were interviewed for the investigation.
Luxembourg is currently conducting the "luxmobil" study, which will involve 40,000 Luxembourgers and 45,000 cross-border workers from France, Belgium and Germany. The contracting authority is the Transport Department of the Ministère du Développement durable et des Infrastructures, Luxembourg.
All mobility studies are based on a complex combination of written, telephone and online surveys, where a baseline mobility behavior is queried on a particular date. This result is a reliable image of the use of transportation and the motives and settings for mobility in the country. The studies also provide a comprehensive database for the regional planning and marketing of transport services and extrapolations of traffic.
